Biographical Note
Little of Salusbury’s background and career details has so far been established. Brief references in the National Archives' State Papers Domestic and Treasury Books show that he was a captain in Charles Churchill’s Regiment of Foot in 1693, and by 1698 or January 1699 a captain in the Coldstream Guards He was presumably in active service during the Nine Years War (1688-97) against the French, perhaps at the Siege of Namur in 1695. He was in receipt of an army pension of £250 in 1716.
Books
He had an engraved armorial bookplate bearing the year 1698 (Franks *382): ‘Lt. Colonell Charles Salusbury, Captain in his Majesties Coldstreame Regiment of Foot Guards’. The content and the disposition of his library are not known.
