Sir Hugh PATERSON of Bannockburn House, 2nd baronet, ca.1685-1777
Biographical Note
Son of Sir Hugh Paterson, 1st Baronet (ca.1659-1701) who had Jacobite sympathies, he sat in the British Parliament for Stirlingshire from 1710 to 1715. He was known to have relations with the exiled Stuart pretender and fled abroad following the events of 1715. He was eventually able to return to Scotland though he had had to sell his estate. He acted as host to Prince Charles Edward at Bannockburn House in 1745.
