Biographical Note
Born at Jacobstow, Cornwall. BA Broadgates Hall, Oxford 1597, MA 1600, fellow of Exeter College 1602-08. He travelled in Europe with Grey Brydges, 5th Baron Chandos and after leaving his household in 1621 he moved to Gloucester Hall, Oxford, where he became principal in 1626; in 1623, he had become the first Camden Professor of History at Oxford.
