Sir Thomas CLAYTON ca.1612-1693
Biographical Note
Son of Thomas Clayton, Master of Pembroke College, Oxford. BA Pembroke College, Oxford 1629, MA 1631, BM 1635, MD 1639; Regius Professor of Medicine at Oxford from 1645. He practised as a physician during the Civil War and Interregnum; he was knighted in 1661 and made Warden of Merton College. He was MP for Oxford University in 1660.

Characteristic Markings
An extensively annotated English Bible of 1609, with an inscription indicating that it must have belonged to either this Clayton or his father, was advertised and illustrated in Antiquates catalogue 18 (2022), item 1.
