Biographical Note

Born at Greenford, Middlesex, son of Francis Waterhouse, fishmonger. Matriculated at Emmanuel College, Cambridge 1635, but did not graduate. he lived in Oxford during the Interregnum, moving to London around 1660. His interests in heraldry and history led him to publish various works in those areas (he was said to have written much of Sylvanus Morgan's Sphere of gentry, 1661), and also on manners and social behaviour (The gentleman's monitor, 1665).
