Obadiah WALKER 1616-1699
Biographical Note
Born at Darfield, near Barnsley; son of William Walker of Worsbrough Dale, Yorkshire. Matriculated at Oxford in 1633, BA 1635, MA 1638. Appointed Master of University College, Oxford in 1676. He was acquainted with John Fell, and was influential in the publication of Anthony Wood's Athenae Oxonienses (1691-2). A Catholic, Walker lost his mastership following the 1688 Revolution and was arrested and briefly imprisoned in the Tower. He was released in 1690 and lived in London until his death.
Books
Gave books to University College, and to the Bodleian. Library sold by retail sale in London, 13.7.1699 (no catalogue survives).
