John TIDCOMB or TIDCOMBE 1642-1714
Biographical Note
Son of Peter Tidcomb, of Calne, Wiltshire. His early career is not known; in 1685 he became captain in the Earl of Huntingdon's Foot regiment, and progressed through a successful military career, being appointed lieutenant general in 1707. He was also well known as a "society figure and wit" (ODNB).
Books
Tidcomb used an engraved armorial bookplate (Franks 29468/29469/*582); the extent and disposition of his library is not known.
