Timothy NEVE 1724-1798
Biographical Note
Born at Spalding, Lincolnshire, son of Timothy Neve (1694-1757), clergyman and librarian of the Spalding Gentlemen's Society. BA Corpus Christi College, Oxford 1741, MA 1744, fellow 1747, BD 1753, DD 1758. Rector of Middleton Stoney, Oxfordshire 1759, of Letcombe Bassett, Berkshire 1762, of Geddington, Northamptonshire 1763; he was also chaplain of Merton College, Oxford. From 1783 he was regius professor of divinity at Oxford, and a prebendary of Worcester Cathedral.
Books
Neve used an engraved armorial bookplates, made probably in the 1740s after he had graduated MA; after 1758, he had the plate altered to note his degree as DD rather than MA (Franks 21678-9). The extent and disposition of his library is not known; his brief will has no mention of books, regretting rather that he had "but little of this world's goods to leave behind".
