Biographical Note
Son of Thomas Burton of Oxford, doctor. BA Christ Church, Oxford 1721, MA 1724, BD 1732, DD 1735. Rector of Slapton, Buckinghamshire 1738, prebendary and precentor of Exeter Cathedral 1771. His will refers to property in Bedfordshire, Oxfordshire, and Wales.
Books
Burton used an engraved armorial bookplate (Franks 4554). The extent of his library is not known; his will has no reference to books, which would have been inherited (with the residue of his estate) by his wife Harriot.
