He married [[family::Sarah Letten]] in 1698 and his will shows that they had several children; in 1727 he bought an estate at [[location::Hookfield, Epsom]] from [[associates::John Ward]]. He drowned in a pond at the Epsom property in 1728; a rumour that it was suicide, prompted by accusations of fraud against him, seems to have been unproved either way.

Biographical Note

Younger son of Sir Randolph Knipe,a wealthy Turkey merchant in London, who was an alderman and sheriff of the City; he had an estate at Hookfield, Epsom which was inherited by his eldest son Edward. Randolph's will does not refer to landed property but he was clearly living in or around London, in affluent circumstances.
