Peter SAMWAYS or SAMWAIES 1615-1693
Biographical Note
Born at Eltham, Kent, reputedly the son of a courtier. BA Trinity College, Cambridge 1637, fellow 1640, MA 1641, college occupation tutor until he was ejected in 1650, DD 1660. Vicar of Cheshunt, Hertfordshire 1655 (ejected 1656), rector of Wath, Yorkshire 1658, of Bedale 1660, prebendary of York 1668. He published a number of doctrinal works.
Books
Several books with an armorial stamp attributed to him survive. The Armorials Database recognises that this may be queried; it is unusual for non-episcopal clergymen to have armorial bindings at this time, though we may note that Bedale was a particularly rich living. More research may be needed here.
