Justinian POVEY 1580-1652
Biographical Note
Son of John Povey of London, embroiderer. Listed as a member of the household of Anne of Denmark in 1619; later auditor for Queen Henrietta Maria, and Keeper of Woods for Charles I.
Books
The library at Dyrham Park, Gloucestershire (now partly dispersed) began to be built up by Thomas Povey’s nephew and heir William Blathwayt (1649?-1717, who bought the estate, and who inherited books owned by both Thomas and Justinian Povey. Thomas was noted as a collector and connoisseur, who gave books to the College of Arms.
