William Lacon CHILDE 1700-1757
Biographical Note
Son of Thomas Childe of the Birch, Kinlop, Shropshire (d.1708). He matriculated at Christ Church, Oxford in 1715, but did not graduate; he was MP for Shropshire 1727-34, and largely lived the life of a country gentleman. He inherited Kinlet Hall from his uncle Sir Lacon William Childe in 1720.
Books
Childe used an engraved armorial bookplate (Franks 5757); the extent of his library is not known. In his will, he directed that his "Books Plate Pictures Household Goods and Furniture" become heirlooms of the family seat at Kinlet Hall.
