Alexander INGLIS d.1719

Biographical Note

Little biographical information about Inglis seems to exist, but he was apparently a merchant in Edinburgh before purchasing the Inglis family seat at Murdostoun from a distant cousin. Upon his death he bequeathed his estate to his nephew Alexander Hamilton, on the condition that he took the Inglis name.

Books

Inglis' library was sold at auction in Edinburgh on 1 July 1719. The catalogue describes the books as being 'in several faculties and languages'.
