Elizabeth CAPELL or PERCY Countess of Essex 1636-1718

Biographical Note

Born at Petworth House, Sussex, daughter of Algernon Percy, 10th Earl of Northumberland. She married Arthur Capell, 1st Earl of Essex and a successful statesman until he was drawn into the Rye House Plot in 1683; after his death that year, by suicide or murder, she did not remarry.

Books

Her library was sold by retail sale in London, beginning 31 March 1718, along with the books of Thomas Winterbottom.
