Philip CROMWELL ca.1608-1642

Biographical Note

Son of Sir Philip Cromwell of Ramsey, Huntingdonshire, and a relation of Oliver Cromwell, Lord Protector. He matriculated at Magdalene College, Cambridge, in 1626 and graduated B.A. 1628, M.A. 1632. Subsequently, he was admitted to Jesus College, Cambridge, and graduated B.D. 1639. From 1632 to his death in 1642, Cromwell was Rector of Wistow, Huntingdonshire.

Characteristic Markings

The title page of one of the volumes given to Magdalene College (H.3.16) is inscribed “Phil Cromwell”.
