Sir John POLE, 3rd bart 1649-1708
Biographical Note
Son of Sir Courtenay Pole, 2nd bart, of Shute, Devon; he succeeded his father in 1695. He was MP for Lyme Regis, and other West Country constituencies, between 1685 and 1708, and held other local administrative offices. His addiction to drink, towards the end of his life, was noted by his brother in law.
Characteristic Markings
Pole used an engraved armorial bookplate (Franks *125); the extent and disposition of his library are not known.
