Biographical Note

Son of Sir Samuel Peyton, 1st bart, of Knowlton, Kent, who succeeded his father in 1623. Unlike his father and his son, he is not recorded as having attended university. MP for Sandwich 1640, for Kent 1661; he held various local administrative offices both before and after the Civil War and Interregnum, when he suffered penalties as a royalist. He died in debt, when his estates had to be sold.

Books

Peyton is noted in his History of Parliament biography as a "student of Greek and Hebrew". A number of books with his armorial stamps are recorded in the Armorials Database..
