Emanuel Scrope HOWE c.1663-1709
Biographical Note
Little is known of Howe’s early life. He became captain in the foot guards and groom of the bedchamber as a reward for his support of William III in 1688. MP for Morpeth 1701-1705 and for Wigan 1705-1708; envoy to Hanover 1705-1709. He married Ruperta (1673-1740), illegitimate daughter of Prince Rupert (1619-1682) and Margaret Hughes (d.1719).
Characteristic Markings
Used an engraved armorial bookplate.
