Sir Thomas ALLIN, 2nd baronet d.1765

Allin's bookplate (British Museum Franks Collection 405)

Biographical Note

Son of Richard Anguish, who changed his name to Allin when he inherited an estate at Somerleyton, Sufolk from his uncle Sir Thomas Allin, 2nd bart, of Blundeston. Richard was made a baronet in 1699 and Thomas inherited the title and estates in 1725.

Books

Allin used an engraved armorial bookplate with the initials T * A (Franks 405). The extent of his library is not know; his will, largely concerned with the disposition of property, has no specific mention of books which would have passed, with the bulk of his estate, to his younger brother Ashurst, who became the 3rd baronet.
