====Biographical Note====
Born in [[place of birth::London]], son of [[family::John Thornicroft]] and [[family::Dorothy Howel]] (daughter of Sir John Howel, Recorder of London). Attended school in [[location::Brentwood, Essex]] and matriculated at [[education::St John's College, Cambridge]] in 1674. Left without a degree and admitted to [[education::Gray's Inn]] 1675. Became a [[occupation::barrister]] in 1686. Created baronet 1701. [[occupation::Sheriff of Oxfordshire]] 1701.

Thornicroft's will makes no mention of his books, which were sold by [[retail sale::retail sale]] in [[location of sale::London]] from [[date of sale::12 December 1726]] alongside those of [[crossreference::William Reeves ca.1667-1726|William Reeves]]. The sale was advertised in the ''Daily Post''.
