====Biographical Note====
Son of Sir [[family::John Smyth d.1726|John Smyth]], 2nd bart, of [[location::Long Ashton, Somerset]], landowner and [[occupation::MP]]; he inherited the baronetcy and family estates from his father in 1726. Matriculated at [[education::St John's College, Oxford]] 1717, but did not graduate; he was awarded the DCL degree in 1729.

====Books====
Smyth used an engraved armorial bookplate (Franks 27474); the extent and disposition of his library is not known. His estates were inherited by his daughter [[family::Florence Smyth|Florence]] but the baronetcy became extinct.
