====Biographical Note====
Born at [[place of birth::Rochester]], the son of [[family::Nathaniel Terne]] of [[location::Chatham]], gentleman.  BA [[education::St John’s College, Cambridge]] 1640, MA 1643; studied at the [[education::University of Leiden]], 1647, where he graduated MD.  Admitted a [[occupation::candidate]] of the [[organisations::Royal College of Physicians]] 1650, [[occupation::fellow]] 1655.  [[occupation::Assistant physician]] to [[organisations::St Bartholomew’s Hospital]], [[location::London]] 1653-69; [[occupation::lecturer]] on anatomy to the [[organisations::Barber-Surgeons Company]], 1656.  [[occupation::fellow|Fellow]] of the [[organisations::Royal Society]] 1663.  A number of [[format::manuscripts]] volumes of his lectures and notes are preserved among the Sloane manuscripts in the [[present repository::British Library]].

Library [[auction::auctioned]] 1686; see entry for [[crossreference::Thomas Allen]] (d.[[date of death::1684]]).  Terne's will has no mention of books; all the residue of his estate was [[bequest::left]] to his [[beneficiary::wife]].
