====Biographical Note====
Son of [[family::Archibald Edmonstone]], 9th of Duntreath; succeeded in 1686 at the age of about 7.
The family lived mainly in Ireland at Red Hall, County Antrim.
He sat in the [[occupation::member of parliament|Irish Parliament]], as the member for Carrickfergus from 1715 to 1727.
