====Biographical Note====
Born (probably) at [[place of birth::Blencow, Cumberland]], son of [[family::Anthony Blencowe]].  Through his [[family::mother]] he was related to [[family::the Dudley family, Barons Dudley]]. BA [[education::Oriel College, Oxford]] 1563, MA 1566, BCL and DCL 1586, [[occupation::praelector]] of dialectics 1567, [[occupation::senior proctor]] 1572, [[occupation::Provost]] of [[education::Oriel College, Oxford|Oriel]] 1574.  [[occupation::prebendary|Prebendary]] of [[location::Wells]] 1586.  Towards the end of his life he initiated a rebuilding project in the [[beneficiary::Oriel College, Oxford|College]], to which he bequeathed the [[bequest::proceeds]] from selling the residue of his estate after family provisions were made (amounting to ca. [[monetary value::£1300]]), enabling the construction of part of the front quadrangle.

After making various [[bequest::monetary]] and other bequests to [[beneficiary::friends]] and members of his [[beneficiary::family]], Blencowe bequeathed [[bequest::the residue of his estate]] to [[beneficiary::Oriel College, Oxford|Oriel]], directing that it be sold for the College’s benefit; he did however direct that such of his books “as shall be thought fit” should be retained for the College library.  67 titles are listed in the donors’ book, mostly canon [[subject::law]].  He also gave [[bequest::16 books]] to the [[beneficiary::Bodleian Library]] in [[date of bequest::1601]].
