====Biographical Note====
Born at [[place of birth::Payhembury, Devon]], son of [[family::Laurence Saunders]].  BA [[education::Oriel College, Oxford]] 1626, MA 1628.  [[occupation::Rector]] of [[location::Holsworthy, Devon]] 1632.  Member of the [[organisations::Devon Association]] 1655, [[occupation::moderator]] of the [[organisations::Exeter Assembly]] 1658; his evangelical sympathies led him to [[author::publish]] [[book title::''An anti-diatribe, or the apologie of some ministers and godly people'']] ([[date of publication::1655]]), in support of administering communion only to those fit to receive it, and his refusal to administer the sacrament to some gentry families elicited their enmity.  He was ejected in 1662, and remained in [[location::Devon]] as an [[occupation::independent minister]], “living peaceably”.
