====Biographical Note====
Son of [[family::Daniel Silvestre]] of [[location::Bordeaux, France]]. MD 1683. Silvestre [[occupation::physician|worked in hospitals]] in [[location::Paris, France|Paris]] before moving to [[location::Amsterdam, Holland|Amsterdam]] after the Revocation of the Edict of Nantes, where he became [[occupation::physician]] to [[associates::William III 1650-1702|the Prince of Orange]], who he accompanied to England in 1689. He was also physician to [[associates::Marshal Schomberg]] in [[location::Ireland]] and [[occupation::Commissioner for the Sick and Wounded]]. He became a naturalised British citizen in 1696. Silvestre was a member of the [[organisations::Royal College of Physicians]] from 1693, and was elected [[occupation::fellow]] of [[organisations::the Royal Society]] in 1699, having been proposed by [[associates::Sir Hans Sloane]].

Silvestre's books were sold at [[retail sale::retail sale]] in [[location of sale::London]] beginning [[date of sale::25 June 1718]]. An advertisement in the ''Post Boy'' describes the sale as containing 'a choice Collection of valuable Books in [[language::Greek]], [[language::Latin]], [[language::French]], [[language::Italian]], [[language::Spanish]], High and Low [[language::Dutch]], [[language::English]], &c, neatly bound, gilt and letter'd'.
