====Biographical Note====
Born in [[place of birth::Scotland]], in or near [[location::Aberdeen]]. MA [[education::Marischal College, Aberdeen]] 1733, MD 1740; in 1733 he was admitted to study medicine at [[education::Leiden University]]. By the time he made his will in early 1747 he was working as a [[occupation::physician]] in [[location::London]], living in the parish of St Martin in the Fields.

====Books====
Crookshanks used an engraved armorial bookplate (made after 1740; he describes himself as MD, Franks 7434). The extent and disposition of his library is not known; in his brief will, he left all his property to his wife [[family::Isabella Crookshanks|Isabella]].
