====Biographical Note====
Son of [[family::Lionel Tollemache 1545-1575|Lionel Tollemache]], of [[location::Helmingham Hall, Suffolk]], from whom he inherited the estate in 1575. [[occupation::High Sheriff]] of [[location::Suffolk]] in 1593 and 1609; he was creatd a baronet shortly before his death in 1612.

====Books====
The Tollemaches were a major East Anglian landowning family and the family library was well established during the time of the 1st baronet, including [[format::manuscripts]] of East Anglian monastic provenance.  Some of the books and manuscripts of [[family::John Maitland]], 1st Duke of Lauderdale (d.1682) came into the family’s possession through Maitland’s marriage to [[family::Elizabeth Dysart]], widow of Sir Lionel Tollemache, 3rd bart (d.1669).  Much of the family library was dispersed at Sotheby’s in a series of sales 1961-69. Examples: Maggs catalogue 1324 (2002)/24.
