Biographical Note

Third son of Sir Edward Coke, Lord Chief Justice; he settled with his wife Elizabeth Waldegrave at Brook Hall, Bramfield, Sussex.

Books

Coke's extensive probate inventory includes “all the bookes in the library and elsewhere in the house”, valued at considerable sum of £86 15s. The total estate was valued at £658 11s 6d, and the house was clearly richly furnished. The books appear under the heading "In Mister Cokes chamber"; there is an extensive list of the contents of "Mistress Cokes clossett", but no books were included there.
